which anti-virus software should i buy?

Sorry for the newbie question that i'm sure you get all the time, but i was
after a recommendation. I have tried the avg download trial and that sorta
worked. I am after something that i can use on 6 different computers running
xp, me and 98. in 6 different locations. I do not mind paying for the
software so long as it is the best. The computers are in my video shops, so
keeping the computers running 24/7 is a high priority. Do you have any
recommendations?

thanks and apologies again for the newbieness

You really want small footprint if you're editing Video, so that'll let out
NAV[home] and McAfee. I've heard that NAV corporate is lighter on the CPU,
but I find that hard to believe. I haven't had recent experience with either
one, these are just my impressions from the NG's posts. How do you plan to
set these up, and what sort of threats do you forsee? It's possible that you
don't even need an AV if the machine is only, say, getting input from a VCR
or simmular, and writing DVDs, with no other connectivity, and no floppy
disks allowed. How together is the staff? All these things, and more, should
be thought out, before you start to pay attention to the thread that your
question will generate, with three hundred people, some knowlegeable, most
not, all voting for their favorite AV. I just reread the question. Is this
for a Video rental chain, with semi-trained here-today-gone-tomorrow labor?
If so you really want to concentrate on ease of automating signature
updates, and don't rely on the staff to do this. NAV has regular updates
once weekly which is way too seldom. In the climate of the last couple of
weeks, you'd want an AV that updates quite often, maybe even twice a day.
Just a couple of thoughts.

BTW: If that is your real email address, you want to get ready to receive
litterally hundreds of emails, with attachments, of Swen.A[144 & 156-7 KB]
Swen.B[71 & 84 KB] Mydoom.B[40-42 & 55 KB] and a host of assorted Mydoom.A,
Bagles, & NetSkys[24 & 30-34 KB]

Cheers,
Jack the Bear.

Just to clarify, video rental stores, relatively untrained (computer wise)
staff but stable. So a relatively user friendly, stand in the background
type, rely heavily on email between stores as communication tool.

SAV CE *is* lighter on system resources than the commercial version of
Symantec products. That's because all of the ancillary modules like
script scanning, email scanning, spyware detection, etc., aren't
included in the CE. It's a totally different product.
