Should "Associate Experts" expect enrolment into the Longhorn Beta?

I don't believe so.
I am not aware that "Associate Experts" were automatically invited to the
first round of testers for the Beta 1 release.
This is not to say you may not be invited later as we add more testers and
later release cycles.
Have you registered ?
Do you have a strong track record as a Beta tester of Microsoft operating
systems?
Does your operating environment fit with the scenarios planned to be tested
for this round of the Beta?

All these and more questions may be applicable to your selection.

No one's automatic. Any AE would likely know this, and would also know to
keep their beta profile up to date. They would also ask this question in the
appropriate private group.
