Where to get Hot Fix 9.0.0.7518

Alex D.

Hi,

While opening ASCII files saved from a Sun box with Word
2000 (SR1 + SP3 installed) I am experiencing the problems
described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -
817140 'WD2000: The "File Conversion Encoding" Dialog Box
Appears When You Open Text File'.

The article mentions the fix (dated 03/20/2003, version
9.0.0.7518) but I am not able to identify the fix on the
MS download sites.

Can anyone help to find the fix?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi, Alex,

The language in the KB article, which Microsoft uses for all articles that
describe hotfixes, is unfortunately opaque and misleading. Here's the plain
English version.

Hotfixes are never available to the general public for anonymous
downloading. You *must* talk to a person in Product Support Services and
have them verify that you have the problem and need the hotfix. They will
give you a load of hooey about charging you for a support incident; but once
they verify that you're eligible for the hotfix, and if you don't ask them
any unrelated questions, the charge will be waived.

The reason for this is usually that the hotfix hasn't yet been adequately
tested in lots of different hardware/software scenarios. Once the testing is
done, the hotfix will eventually be included in a service pack. If you
aren't up for the hotfix hassle, you can wait for the service pack.
