Where on the taskbar is the document I just opened?

When I open a new email, or a Word document, it doesn't show up as the last
item in the taskbar at the bottom. It randomly inserts itself among other
running programs, so I have to search for it among 10 or 15 open items.

I have 'Group Similar Taskbar buttons' turned off if that makes a
difference.

Is there a setting which makes sure that each new instance of an application
adds itself to the far right on the taskbar?
