Hello group members,

I had a file erased by my antivirus software (KAV) instead of cleaning it.
It's

\winnt\system32\wfsxnt40.exe

(but it is not on my PC any more ; I just took note of its name.

Though everything appears to work without it (I have no idea of its role),
I'd like to restore if (e.g. from the win2k distribution). Where can I find
it?

TIA,

Wish I could help you here, but I looked in every database I could find here
and never got a single hit. I also couldn't find anything on the internet
for wfsxnt40.exe.
Not sure what that file is.

I'm awfully sorry: I misspelled the filename; it is wfxsnt40.exe (I had
swapped x and s, and it's even worse in the message title)... My apology for
this, I double-checked tis time.

However, I'm not quite sure if that 'infected' file was not part of the
virus itself (unfortunately I did not save its name)

Regards,

Hi

From http://tiger.la.asu.edu/startup_programs.htm :

"Symantec WinFax Fax Port Starter installed by WinFax V10."

Thanks a lot for your reply, and for the interesting link as well.

I was able to locate the file on the winfax CD and copy it back to the right
place.

Best regards,
