Where is win2k?

Does anybody know what directory Windows 2000 stores the
startup installation in?

When my computer restarts and the win2k installation gets
to "System starting Windows 2000" it just hangs there and
does nothing after that--so I want to delete the install
and try again. I've tried using boot disks but when I get
to this point it still freezes, hangs, quits or whatever
its doing--in any case it does nothing.

Win2K is installed in %systemroot%/winnt (most probably
c:\winnt). I've seen this behavior on PCs with two video
cards (maybe one on board) if that's the case you need to
disable one of the cards. There is a article about this
in the knowledge base. HTH --- Mike

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Sounds like you're not booting the CD-Rom. You may need to change the boot
order in cmos setup. Then at POST watch for the keystroke f2, spacebar, etc.
to tell it to boot from the CD-Rom. Failing that boot from the setup
floppies.
