Where is My File!!

Hi, Upon double-clicking on the file icon, I received the following error message: ¡°The file or directory is corrupt and non-readable.¡±

I could still open the file before the abrupt shutdown of my system few minutes ago.
Could anyone answer my query and explain to me how the problem can occur so that I will not had the same problem again.

Got backups?
Try running chkdsk /f on your drive ....
and look in your event log for errors.
