where has my sound gone

when ever i play music from a cd or 'itunes' or any thing in that case, the
computer is playing it but i just can't hear no sound. when i turn my
speakers up to full i hear faint static waves so they must be working please
some one help i've tryed everything.

the obvious thing to check is your speaker lead is plugged into the green
spkr socket on your sound card, not the pink one! The next thing I would
check is that the audio lead INSIDE your computer is connected between the CD
drive connector and your sound card. To check this, unscrew and remove your
pc casing and look for a thin cable plugged into a small socket at the rear
of the cd drive - follow it down to your sound card. Good luck!
 
It sounds like a soundcard error...but i don't really know anything about
computers. i had the same problem not to long ago that turned out to be
soundcard related (it seemed i didn't have one) ;-)
