Where does WinXP store ICS connection information?

I want to be able to switch easily between 2 connections as the one
which shares my internet connection.

My first attempt was simply to change which connection is in the
internet connection properties, but it changes the IP address of each
connection to 192.168.0.1 every time it is changed, which makes it more
hassle than I am happy with.

My next attempt was to make a copy of the internet connection, so that
I could have a second one shared with the other connection; however XP
only lets you share one internet connection at a time.

My next attempt was to find it in the registry so I could just run a
..reg file each time I wanted to change connection, but I can't find the
information in the registry... where is it! Is it in a system file
somewhere? I don't want to mess about with any 3rd party software as
this should really be a very easy thing to do... if only I knew where
the info lives.

ICS uses two network connections: one for connecting to the Internet,
and one for connecting to other computers on the home network.

Do you want to switch between two different Internet connections, or
between two different home network connections? How is your network
(or networks) set up physically? What connects to what?

When you share an Internet connection, ICS changes the IP address of
the home network connection to 192.168.0.1. This is by design and
can't be changed. Why is it a problem?

I don't know of any way to make a copy of a network connection. If
you do, please explain how.

Yes, ICS only lets you share one Internet connection at a time.

To the best of my knowledge, XP doesn't store ICS information in the
registry.

Thanks for your response.

I have one internet connection, which I would like both networks to be
able to use. I've given up on the network bridge for now, and I thought
this would be a reasonable second best.

I have a WinXP machine, connected to a ADSL line and each network
consists only of one Win98 machine; one via wireless and one via a
wire.
When you share an Internet connection, ICS changes the IP address of
the home network connection to 192.168.0.1. This is by design and
can't be changed. Why is it a problem?

It may be by design, but it is pointless and annoying! It is a problem
because it means that I have to change it straight back to what it was;
either that or I have to change the subnet of whichever Win98 machine I
am trying to connect from (and then reboot, it being Win98) -- not to
mention changing the other Win98 machine from 192.168.0.x.
I don't know of any way to make a copy of a network connection. If
you do, please explain how.

My ADSL line appears as a Dial Up connection, which can be copied
simply by right clicking and selecting "Create Copy"

Yup, I have come to that conclusion too. However it must be stored
somewhere, and I'd really like to know. I realise that what I should
really be doing now is trying to solve my network bridge problem, since
this switching idea was only meant to be a quick workaround, but it's
bugging me now and I'd really like to know!

Just in case you are able to help me with the network bridge, here is a
summary of the situation: both networks were working fine; individually
I can get ICS working fine with them, but when I bridge them together
the wireless network stops working; the network bridge is 192.168.0.1,
the wired Win98 machine is 192.168.0.2, and the wireless one is
192.168.0.3; I can't even ping across the wireless connection after
bridging, but the connection says the wireless link is good; I've
forced the wirelss connection into promiscuous mode; and the wired
Win98 machine appears, but is unaccessible and can't be pinged either,
under network neighbourhood on the wireless machine.
If you can help with either of these I'd be very happy.

Michael
