Where do I go to insert a heather in my document?

Assuming you really mean header...

Word 2003 and earlier: choose View - Header and Footer.

Word 2007: Insert tab, click on Header. There are many choices, or click
Edit Header to create your own from scratch.
 
Unless you're looking for a picture of heather (Insert | Picture | Clipart
or use Google's image search), I'm not sure what you're asking.
 
I suspect it's an issue of his having mis-heard someone saying "header".
