Where can I get sfe codecs from?

I want to play divx films.
Can someone tell me where to get *safe* codecs from?
There seem to be soooo many available. : (
I'm confused about which to go for.

The Gordian Knot Codec Pack is a bit out of date by now, but should do
the trick:

.. For DivX and XviD in particular, Doom9 has links to more current
versions: http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm#codecs .

just get the xvid or official divx codec and you should be fine rather than
installing all the other junk.
