IMA ADPCM audio codec

First of all, I am running WIN XP and have the original software.

I recently purchased an Olympus digital voice recorder that has PC
capabilities in that one can transfer the wav files to a computer. The
software (Olympus Wave Player) apparently requires an "IMA ADPCM" audio
codec. I found a website that said that I needed to go into the Control
Panel/Add new hardware and then go into C:/Windows/System 32 - and find
"mmdriver.inf" and open that and it would install the IMA ADPCM codec.

I did all that and it showed up and the Olympus Wave Player and recorder
started open, BUT I could not HEAR anything! And yes, my speakers work. I
then went into Device Manager and it said something about that IMA ADPCM
codec NOT being "digitally signed" which I take to mean that it's either not
safe (even though it came from a Windows file?) or won't work.

The only thing unusual is that when I went into Control Panel/Sound & Audio
devices/Hardware - it showed "audio codec" BUT the IMA ADPCM was listed ABOVE
it, not as a PART of the audio codec and I THINK that's where it needs to be
for my recorder to work.

I then gave up and did a system restore to 3 days ago. What now? I need that
file and don't know a safe way to get it!

How can I get the IMA ADPCM audio codec ON THE LIST shown in my Control
Panel/Sound & Audio devices/Hardware?
