Where are the signatures

G

Guy Lateur

Hi all,

We use a standardized (html-) signature for all our company mail. Normally,
a user's signature is located in this folder: C:\Documents and
Settings\GuyL\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures

However, we have a few users who don't have this folder. I've searched
everything from their local hard disc to the file server, and I can't find
their signature file. Does anybody know how to do this? How can I get
Outlook to tell me where it gets the signature? I would like to update
everybody's signature, so I'll have to know where to put it.

Thanks, regards,
g

Do they have signatures already? Did you include hidden files and folders in
your search? Also note that the folder may be localized. For the Dutch
version for instance it is called "Handtekeningen" instead of "Signatures".

Tips of the month:
-FREE tool; QuickMail. Create new Outlook items anywhere from within Windows
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data

Yep, they were hidden. Thanks a lot!

If you want a standardized signature for everyone, having the server append
it seems a better approach than trying to update a bunch of PCs.

True. However, when I said standardized, I actually meant regarding the
layout & info fields. I mean, every user has a different sig (eg different
name, title, e-adres), but they all look and feel the same.

Can I have the server automatically append these indivudual sig's? Because
that would still mean I don't have to go and update each PC (there are
30-something), which would be nice. We're using win2003 SBS.

Thanks,
g

I see.

Alas, I do not know, but I suspect not, since the Signature folder is local
to the individual's PC. Do you intend to require a signature on every
message? If so, how will you prevent the individual from not appending the
signature or deleting (or changing the format of) the signature?

Yes, every message has a signature.

About the second question: if I can't append sig's on the server, then I
won't be able to prevent that. But that's not really my concern, because my
users agree it's best to have a uniform sig on every message. It would just
be easier for me to maintain/update the sig's on the server, so I don't have
to do it on all individual PC's.
