Where are Start Menu entries?

I shall be glad if someone could inform me where in the Registry or
Documents and Settings one can find the entries for the Start Menu's *left*
panel, in Windows XP Professional.

This is in connection with duplicating a profile for another user (except
for one or two personalized folders). Copying the profile worked perfectly -
except the left panel of the Start Menu apparently did not copy over! We've
already 'pinned' the necessary shortcuts manually but wanted to know the
location for future reference.

Also (and I apologize for adding this) - I remember a post on these groups
with a registry tweak (HKCU) that would install a personalized icon on the
*lower right corner* of the Start Menu. Or, maybe it was on a website. Can
anyone provide any insight on this?

Regards and thanks very much in anticipation.

Just something left out - the Star Menu is set *not* to display the programs
used most often. All shortcuts were added manually using the 'pin to Start
Menu" procedure for the profile used to copy from!

Thanks very much for your response. The locations do not contain entries for
the *left* panel of the Start Menu though!

Regards.

Items pinned to the start menu are in the registry under this key:
"HKEY_LOCAL_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage"
(the 3 'favorites' values)

If I understood you correctly, you want to know where to find the start
menus of programs often used. Go to:
"Start"
somewhere above "programs" right click and you will see "properties"
"start menu"
"customize"
"advance"
"start menu settings"
also under "general" choose how many files you wish to see listed, the
rest is yours to choose.

Hope this was what you were looking for.

Thanks for the response. Actually I was interested in the *left* panel of
the Start Menu where one can "pin" shortcuts!

See the suggestion by Keith Miller above your post.

Regards and thanks again.

Thanks very much - that is precisely what I was looking for. (I assumed you
meant HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_USER by the way!)

As an experiment I exported the Start Page registry entry, logged off and
logged back in as a different user (one we keep as a 'standby') and merged
the registry key. Logged off and logged back on as that same user.

And there was the Start Menu exactly as the way we wanted! Splendid!

Regards and thanks a zillion. You are a genius.

Yes!!! I copied from an older post of mine. Don't know where in the hell I got HKEY_LOCAL_USER ......LOL

They do but only for the upper area. I'm sorry though, I misunderstood
your question I guess.
