Where are Outlook files kept?

D

DaveC

I want to transfer my Outlook files and folders from my current HD to my new
one. I'll do this by burning CD-R discs and after installing the new HD,
copying them to the new drive.

I can't find any folders called "Mail", "Inbox", or any of the folders I
created in Outlook by searching My Computer.

Dell Inspiron 600m; Win XP; Outlook 5? (Details discloses that Outlook is
version "10.0.4510.0").

Thanks,

Please, no "Go Google this" replies. I wouldn't
ask a question here if I hadn't done that already.

Outlook 5 is actually Outlook Express, not Outlook. Are you using Outlook
or Express for your mail?

I think this is outlook XP

Right click onto the outlook icon on your desktop (or control panel, mail)

Then click on "data files" in there you'll see where you pst file is stored

Just backup this file

Hope that helps

I have the same problem - I copied my (Outlook 2000) .dbx files to a CD when
I bought my new computer, but I can't find where to put them. The following
directory doesn't exist on my hard drive, and a search doesn't find any other
..dbx files. Also, when I installed Outlook on my new computer, I don't have a
"Sent Items" folder. Any clues??

Outlook is:
Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst

Outlook Express, you already have 3 or 4 replies for OE.

With OL2000, you should always set up Outlook using the "Corporate or
Workgroup" option. If you choose Internet Mail only, you get those dbx
files. With the Corp option, everything is in a .pst file: contacts,
calendar, mail folders. Much more portable.

You can reconfigure mail support (in Options), opting for Corporate, and
Outlook will convert all the data in dbx files to the outlook.pst. When you
archive old data, that goes into an archive.pst file.

Some people move their pst files to a folder in My Documents for ease in
backing up. Outlook is easily reconfigured for the new location. I've done
this for years successfully. Any time I have to move an Outlook account to
a new computer, I first convert to Corporate.

With Office 2002 and 2003, you get an outlook.pst file automatically. Thank
goodness.

Have a good one.

Outlook, any version from 97 through 2003, has NEVER used .dbx files - they
are used exclusively by Outlook Express, a part of internet Explorer, not
Office.

Where in the world did you get the idea that Outlook 2000 IMO used .dbx
files? Please do not post incorrect information. If you do not know, please
refrain from givng non-useful advice.

This is the default location. In order to be sure, check out the location:
Tools->Options->Maintenance tab->Store Folder. This will you show you the
location and will also enable you to change it.

The OP said "Outlook" not Outlook Express. Both of you are posting help for
locating OE files.

Actually relic, this does work in Outlook. I just tried it:
Tools>Options>Maintenance Tab>Store Folder works for me in Outlook.

*Blink*

How? I see no Maintenance tab in Outlook's "Tools, Options" menu. Only in
Outlook Express (or the quasi 'Outlook' Newsreader, but that is really OE).

What else is to be expected from the ****tards in the microfucked groups?
