When open Outlook, problem window opens & says needs to close, why?

Every time I open Outlook a window opens that says the search protocol host
has encountered a problem and needs to close. It gives me the option to
send/not sent the error report to Microsoft. I don't know how to read an
error report, so I don't know how to fix this. This only happens when I open
Outlook. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do?

With Outlook closed, try deleting the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat

Brian,
You're right. I did find the file (%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat)
and I deleted it; however, it hasn't resolved my problem. When I opened
Outlook the same window keeps popping up about how the search protocol host
has encountered a problem. I tried restarting my computer after I deleted the
file to see if that would take care of the problem but it didn't. The same
window keeps popping up. Do you have any other ideas? I appreciate your help.

Thanks for your time,
BTT

Try starting Outlook in Safe mode (Start>Run. Enter "outlook.exe /safe" -
without the quotes, but with the space) and see if that makes a difference.

I have the same problem.
When I start Outlook 2007 with the Safe parameter, it is stable for a few
hours but then gives the same error and shuts down again.
If I start it normally it gives the error within a few seconds.

Any other ideas?

It is a brand new installation on a brand new Lenovo PC.
