When I type a reply, the typing does not appear

Outlook 7.0. I can use the mouse, highlight (the light blue highlight but no
text appears);hit the font color key, manually hit the the black color and
the text appears. What a pain.

Go into the Outlook options (Tools | Options). On the Mail Format tab,
select the Fonts button. Now you can change the font and color from there.
