When I open a window, it is usually maximized. What should I do to stop the
automatic maximization?

Window of which application ? Explorer ?
How are you opening window ? By a shortcut ?

If by a shortcut then :
Right click Shortcut,
Properties,
Change "Run :" to "Normal Window"
Click OK

It is already set to normal window!

Could the maximization have become a "default"?

For example, when I open the shortcut of the A drive, the window is always
maximized.
