When I hit the space bar i get a small star *?

While using Microsoft Word 2003 everytime I hit the space bar I get a small
star*. I have reloaded the program with no results. The star does not appear
when using note pad.

Unless you're using a bizarre font, you should be getting a dot rather than
a star. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm
