When I download a jpeg file it opens in word as text. Help!

I must have changed some setting because now when I download a jpeg file from
an attachment on email, it will only open in a word file, and it comes up as
nonsensical text. It didn't used to to this. How do I restore something so
that the jpeg file will be able to open as a picture when I down load it?
