Ted

I am trying to install XP Pro, will not load if cable
modem attached to CPU. Disconnected it reloaded. After
reloading and then attaching cable modem (RCA) XP Pro
freezes. Cursor will not move. I can get everything to
work in safe mode and have cable internet access. Any help
would be appreciated!!

Ted, did you install the Modem Software before hooking up the modem?

No, I did not as the modem was working OK in the safe mode
and the cable company has the software. They didn't leave
any with me when they hooked in up in June of 2000.
Thanks for the reply. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Ted, can you go to the Manufacturers website and see if they have any
WinXP drivers?

Contact your ISP and demand they fix the problem. If they can't
provide decent support, then you should move to a different provider.

A cable modem in most cases will not need any drivers.

Now if you are talking about the NIC (if the modem is not hooked up
using USB) then yes drivers may not be correct or current.

If the modem is hooked up using USB, Have you tried using the ethernet
connection instead? (Would need a NIC installed to do that)

The cable modem has a ethernet cable and is attached to
the NIC card. It's rather odd that I can get complete
internet access when operating in the Safe Mode, but hook
the darn thing up while in the normal operation mode and
the mouse and screen freeze.
