When and how to instal service packs and other upgrades?

I have Office XP, which is not supported by my IT
department hence this e mail. Sometimes Word and
PowerPoint crash for different reasons or whims. Is it
worth upgrading with the service packs? If so do you need
to go through the different versions or does say version 3
include all of 1 and 2? Will it cause more problems?

Usually the service releases aren't cumulative (so version 2 does not
include version 1), however, Office XP SP-3 *is* cumulative. It includes
SP-1 and SP-2 in it.

Head to Office Update at http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/ and click
the "check for updates" link. That will tell you what you need.
