What's your Screeen Resolution?

What screen resolution is everybody using?
Drilled as I am in accessibility and speccing for 'average [business]
users', I guess I thought that anything over 12xx *7xx Hz was really
unusual. Judging from an earlier thread it looks like I got that wrong.

I am well aware that this group is not representative of average
internet users.. But nevertheless people like us are a significant
sub-group, and there are plenty of sites and software aimed at this group.

When I was a developer a lot of really techy people took pride in using
low-spec gear and it wouldn't surprise me if some people are on
'awesome' resolutions, and others on very low resolutions like 800*600.

If you think you have an unusual resolution - why did you choose that
over the recommended resolution?

1680x1050 on a 20" WS LCD - primary display
No real suprise there, it's the native resolution for this monitor

1200x900 on a 19" CRT - secondary display
I'll sometimes bump this up to 1600x1200 or drop it down to 640x480,
depending on what I'm doing. For development, 1600x1200 gives more "room".
For emulating what my stuff will look like in an MCE/TV environment, 640x480
is a decent proximation. But 12x9 is a good "day-to-day" compromise

1280x960 on a ViewSonic G810 (old 20" CRT that I can't find a decent excuse to
replace). I use this resolution instead of the more popular 1280x1024 because
1280x960 is *true* 4:3.

On LCD monitors you do NOT have a choice of resolutions. For any given size
of LCD screen (17", 19") there is a stated Native Resolution that must be
used in order to get a high quality image. For instance, all 19" LCD's
operate at 1280 x 1024 native resolution.

1024 * 768 on a 17" monitor; 800* 600 on a 15" one. Anything greater is too
much of an eyesight test for me!

Regards,
Chris

PS. I always think it is good etiquette to post at least one reply to
someone when I post a question (See DDR SDRAM compatability). Assuming I
have something new to add. Anyone have other views?

1280x1024 on a 19" Samsung Syncmaster 950p as primary monitor and 1280x1024
on a 19" Viewsonic GS790 as secondary monitor for work. I need the real
estate to see as much as possible while I work. I run 2048x1536 for gaming.

Hoping to relace these 19" monitors for 22" soon.

Well, yea, you would only use 1280x1024 on a 5:4 LCD. I use 1280x960 on a
4:3 21" CRT too. My eyes are too old for higher resolutions than that.

Yea, and that's one of the reasons I went back to a good quality CRT after
owning two LCD's. LCD's are a joke if you really care about IQ.
