What's this gcasDtServ.exe doing?

Suddenly my computer has slowed to a crawl & wouldn't shut down
normally. Found that gcasdtserv.exe is using 99% CPU time. Did a
Google search and it seems that this is something to do with
Microsoft Antispyware which I have been using for a while. I have
removed it via Control Panel and all seems well. Any ideas as to why
this file started causing problems?

It's a part of the resident component of the Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta. It
could have been conducting a scan when you noticed that it was at 99% (but a
scan of my system only showed 48 - 64% utilization. Another thing could be a
problem with the software reacting to another program. Do you have any other
anti-spyware program running resident in memory? They can conflict with
each other and cause this kind of problem.

If you're not using other programs that could interfere with it, I'd suggest
uninstalling it. Then download another copy and reinstall it. It's a good
program and has kept me pretty darned clean since it's been released!

thank you both for the responses. I do have AdAware installed, but
it's not running in memory, only when I do a check. The 99% cpu usage
seemed to be continuous, at least I never saw it drop right back. I'll
try downloading a fresh copy and see how that works.
