whats the best hardware to capture/recording sound

i have a movie on my computer that speaks other language that i do not
understand but its picture is amazingly nice .

...and i have the same movie on tape and its picture is really low but i can
understand the language it's speaking.

how can i capture/record the sound of the movie on the tape and imported
into the movie that i have on my computer?

...or can anyone tell my what software i can use to put subtitles onto the
movie that i have on my computer?

thanks!

If the tape and digital versions were exactly the same
length and speed, in theory you could try to capture the
tape version, take a video editor and replace the digital
version's audio with that captured from the taped version.

In practice, it's very unlikely the two will sync, you'd
probably end up with audio timing that isn't appropriate for
the video. Even having the timing off by 0.01%, after a few
minutes it'd be off enough to ruin the resulting "watching
experience".

I recommend buying the correct-language digitized version or
settling for the low quality capture from the tape for it's
video as well as audio.
