What's so grand about MP3?

In an effort to appreciate all the hoopla over MP3, I've
been playing around with them using Nero and/or a couple
of WAV/MP3 conversion programs. While I can create an MP3
file about 1/10 as large as the corresponding WAV file, I
can still only burn the same number of tunes on a CD.
Apparently, even though the MP3 file is smaller, the
amount of TIME each tune takes up is exactly the same as
that with a WAV file. Consequently, a CD fills up just as
fast. What's up with this?? How do I get more tunes on a
CD?

An mp3 CD needs to be burned as a DATA CD and not as an AUDIO CD. It sounds
like Nero is converting them into wave format "on the fly" ie. as it burns
the CD.

FYI, if an mp3 file is 4 Mb on average, you should be able to get more than
150 files on a data CD.......!!!

Remeber to burn a data CD and NOT an audio CD next time.

when you select "burn audio cd" in Nero, it is first
converting the MP3 to a WAV* file, then its burning. This
is because most cd players cannot read MP3 files. If you
want to make a MP3 CD, create a data cd then put the MP3's
on it. (sorting them in folders if you like).

if you have a player that can read mp3's, you'll have no
problem reading the mp3 cd's. (most dvd players can, and
some newer/upperend walkmans can). If you dont, then
you'll hafta just use the burn audio cd fuction in nero.

hope thats helpful!
