I posted a question asking about a Trojan that keeps coming back,

And replied to an reply;
Thanks for that, as I have AVG, Sygate, Adaware and now Microsoft
AntiSpyware on my system so I don’t really want anything else, if I ran a
full scan on each my pc would be busy for about 8 hours, just one program
that actually did the lot would be good. . .

The item that keeps on re-appearing is “startup.nameshifter.01†I just
want the Microsoft AntiSpyware to do its job with out popping up a window to
ask me what to with an item it has dealt with many times before, there should
be a “delete this threat automatically next time†tick box, or the program
should learn from earlier experience what to do.

And now the whole thread has disappeared?????

In my experience, this kind of repeated popup likely indicates that the
threat is still in place on your machine, continusously regenerating. You
may find a subdirectory under \program files\microsoft antispyware which is
filling with copies of the bug.

You may well need both safe mode and a competent antivirus scanner, as well
as Microsoft Antispyware, to take care of this.

An online scanner will usually have the vendors latest signatures.

If you are behind a router or using the Windows firewall, one way to proceed
would be to update Microsoft Antispyware, then restart in safe mode with
networking, and do full, deep scans with Microsoft Antispyware until one
comes through clean, and also go to:

http://safety.live.com

and hit Protect in the left column, and do a "protection scan" using their
scanner.

That will give you Microsoft's best shot at cleaning, from both an antivirus
and an antispyware perspective.
