Whats a good firewall

T

techno guy

Hi, i have tried many firewalls in my time but have never come across
one that i and 100% satisfied with.
I am currently using COMODO Firewall
http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ and have found that it is very good
but is still lacking lots of features that i would find useful, like:
blocking all in-going or all-outgoing connections separately, and well
theirs other little things like that but i don't want a firewall that
has 100's of feature (too many) because then it just gets too much...

But any way i just want to find out what other people use and if COMODO
is a good firewall compared to other firewalls.

Many thanks, Adriel

I like Kerio. The problem I have always had with Zone Alarm is that
after awhile, a month or two, it starts bogging down my system. I have
tried it on several different systems always with the same result. Have
always gone back to Kerio.

Its caching the message alerts, that bogs down the system. There's a
setting to limit the amount, and delete older alerts as you go. ZA Pro
here.

Zone Alarm...

No, personal firewalls are snake oil. Think more like Linksys,
Netgear, Cisco or a Linux box.

I have used ZoneAlarm since it was released and have been 100% satisfied
with it. It takes some tweaking but is very good (IMO).

Try some to see what you like. There is Sunbelt Software's Kerio Personal
Firewall and Zone Alarm as examples. A software firewall is just one
component of system security. It is wise to use a router with NAT as well
as practicing safe hex.

That was supposed to be a helpful link? Look at the title. It really
is a 2007 review of firewalls? It is still 2006 on this planet. I've
seen that matrix with the same data way back in 2004. Yeah, like
Sygate is a viable solution unless you want to use defunct products
(and the free version at that since Symantec isn't selling the Pro
version). Sygate died over a year ago when Symantec ate them up and
crapped them into the toilet; see
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1848935,00.asp. So here is Sygate
listed in a 2007 review but which became unavailable in 2005. Uh huh.
I like the statement in the link there to "their" review of Sygate that
says, "Sygate Personal Firewall Pro by Sygate Technologies, Inc. has
potential." Oh yeah, a shelved product really has potential.
Interestingly the link for "Direct from manufacturer" goes to
element5.com rather than sygate or symantec. Uh huh.

It's a spam site pretending to be a help site. They provide some help
and hope you buy through their affiliate links. However, the "help" is
antiquated. The top 5 "Buy Now" links are affiliate URLs. The web
site owner wants to make money, not provide useful and up-to-date
information. No timestamps in the "reviews". News is time sensitive
so it always must be timestamped to prove its applicability to today's
readers, unless you are researching some history on the products.

Visit http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#sites. Not
only is there rogueware but there are also roguesites.
