What updates slows down downloads?

Hi all,

Do any of the updates for XP slow down
files you download or something?

Coz, since I've installed some update (I dont
know which one), downloads come to a crawl.

Its slow enough now lol (I'm on dialup), the
downloads start fine and then goes backwards
and stops. And its starting to get annoying!

I still connect to my ISP fine at the normal speed.

I dont think its the ISP, thats the prob.

It seems to affect files I download from
ftp sites, more than http ones. Http downloads
seem to be faster.

Anyone know a fix or what update (if its an update)
maybe causing this annoying prob?

How are you downloading from FTP sites?
Are you using IE? If so what version?
If not...What program are you using to DL
FTP?

It doesnt matter if I use Opera
(9.1 beta / RC1, or IE 7).

Firefox 2 is also installed, but I dont really use FF that much.

I usually use Opera since it can resume downloads.

I'm not using any other program apart from Opera, or IE.

To download.

I'm not using anything like Getright.

I dont use P2P programs, or anything like that.

The main site (thats the prob), is the Leadtek site (I've been trying to get
the updated program for my TV tuner), and its taken forever lol. I dont know
if their server is
screwed, or its full or something, but its definitely slow when I try to
download anything from this site.

But quite a few sites I've tried to download from are slow
as a snail.
