What type file is the most popular for playing video ?

What type file is the most popular to play video & how do you convert .mov
files to the popular type of file?

I use .mov because we produce videos in Final Cut. I've tried to place a
..mov video file on a web page, but after I inserted it using the standard
insert>video>open and then pressing preview it doesn't show up. I have
quickitme on my computer but for some reason IE want use it to play the video.
(but the same video opened through quicktime plays fine)

This got to thinkin, maybe I don't want a .mov file, what type of file is
the most popular, most of the people I know & as I understand it most people
use IE (sometihing 96% I read somewhere) so their probably not using QT to
play their videos.

So I ask the question above.

I am not sure about the "most popular". There is nothing inherently wrong
with ".mov" files, for example, as long as your want quicktime. For windows,
the .wmv format is quite popular. You will see some AVI files from time to
time, but they are not as popular these days.

As far as conversion, there are a variety of tools. Do a search on
download.com and you should be able to find a converter that is either free
or inexpensive. Most movie editing programs will convert, as well.

If you are really aiming for windows, windows media is a good idea. But, a
better idea, is to provide multiple formats, so people can see it no matter
what they use.

Its a Quicktime file and I can't seem to get it play in FP's preview or on
the web

OK, here's the movie file:

so, it's definitely up on the server. Your problem could be that either
you've got a problem because of the file name (lots of spaces (%20) etc.) or
the code you used to call the movie isn't correct.
If it were me, the first thing I'd do is rename the file to get the obvious
out of the way.
