Hi all,
I want to free up C: drive without losing anything I currently have on that
drive, can I do this safely by drag and dropping or is there something
simpler that I am missing?
I am a bit of a novice with all this so please be gentle :)

Regards

Phil

Hi

If C is full of application that you've installed (office, Win, games,
codecs, etc) you cannot use drag and drop (move). If you have a lot of movies
documents etc then you can move them.

Did you try to use partition magic ?
What kind of windows do you have?
For example, in the future, if you don't already, try to keep al the
information (documents, movies, etc) on the second partition because if you
have problems with windows and have to reinstall windows, you'll lose al your
data from C(aparently.you can restore some of them but it's quite complicate
and depend of some factors).

Best regards.

You can't move any system and most installed program files.
You CAN move text, images, word processor, audio and video files to the D drive.
You could move the pagefile to the D drive...
HOW TO: Move the Paging File in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307886

You can free up a lot of the C drive:
Safe to Delete:

Do not delete the "C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$" folder. It's integral for when new updates are
applied making sure things are consistent with previously applied updates and patches.
Description of the contents of Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 software update

Remove Hotfix Backup Files: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

If your OS is running fine, delete all but the latest System Restore Point:
Click Start, Accessories, System tools, Disk Cleanup, "More Options" tab, "System Restore"
section, "Clean up" button, click "Yes"

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, click the "General" tab, Under
"Temporary Internet Files", click the "Delete Files" button, check the box, "Delete all offline
content", "OK". After it finishes, click the "Settings" button and lower the amount of disk
space to use to 10 Meg. Click "OK", "Apply". That will increase your hard drive space by how
much was in that folder. I've seen it well over a gig. Folders that big are prone to crosslinked
files. Clear it weekly, or sooner, especially if IE starts acting funny. Better yet: Click the
"Advanced" tab, scroll down to "Security", and check the box, "Empty Temporary Internet Files
folder when browser is closed", click "Apply", "OK"

If you're a novice, use DiskCleanup
Assuming your data files are stored in My Documents, rt click on My
Documents desktop icon, and see move. Thus putting the Folder in D
You cannot move Programs, you have to uninstall them then Custom Install to
