What to do when Outlook fails to start, "DDE Server Window" error

Outlook fails to start up after I've closed it once. I get an error message
that mentions "DDE Server Window" and a suggestion to open in Safe Mode.
Using the Detect/Repair feature doesn't resolve the problem. When I shut
down the computer, I also get a dialogue box saying the program is not
responding.

Thanks so much, Bill, for taking the time to respond to my SOS. However,
none of the 3 alternatives you mentioned worked. In trying to follow
instructions for Method 1, I didn't get an Open box - the computer simply
opened a dialog box that said "windows cannot find outlook.exe....."

The dialogue box that I get when I shut the computer down doesn't mention
"No Disk," it only says "DDE Server Window" and says the program is not
responding. So, I'm not sure that the solutions you provided are aimed at
this specific problem.

But, thanks for your effort.
