What stage to map drives via batch files

I want to set up a script to set up some drive mappings based on the
machine's identity.

At what stage in the start up process can I do that?

I want to do it in a way that the user doesn't have to logon to the
workstation before the drives are mapped, as the share and the password
are linked to the machine, not the user's id.

I also don't want it to show up in the Start menu.

In its present incarnation doesn't allow autologon, but that could easily be
added. Though having the user identify themself is seldom a bad idea.
