What should I do if my backspace and delete keys won't work?

What should I do to correct the problem of my delete and backspace keys
(suddenly) not working? (They worked last night!)
 
What are you trying to delete?

If you try the keys in a different document, or in a different application,
then do they work?

Have you tried replacing the keyboard?

What happens when you press Delete or Backspace? Which version of Word?
