What password?

The profile manager occassionally asks for a password when none is set for
that profile. And, where a password is set, the correct one does not work.
Only a reboot gets us back to normal. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

What profile manager? There's nothing in XP that officially uses that name
but perhaps you're using the term to refer to an XP feature? A bit of added
detail and we would know what you are referring to and could perhaps help.

On the other hand, the "profile manager" may be part of software that is
not a part of XP. If that's the case, there should be information in the
program's help file.

Maybe I can clarify...

Without knowing the exact technical name... when XP starts, you log off, or
when XP is in hibernation, the user profiles are shown, (i.e. "name1,
"name2", "guest"). When it has gone into hibernation it wants a password to
get back into a user's profile. But none is set, or as I said, the password
won't work.

I hope thast helps clarify things. Thanks.

Open the Control Panel Display applet and look on the Screensaver tab.
Uncheck the box that asks for a password when resuming from the
screensaver, etc. Apply and OK out.

Thanks for the idea, but we don't have screensaver passwords set. Anyone else
have any ideas?

If you haven't checked, please do so. Sometimes, after updates, the
screensaver password requirement gets reset. FYI: XP does not offer the
setting of a separate screensaver password. Instead it uses the user
name/passwords for user accounts established on that system.

Another place to check is in Power Options. There is a similar option
requiring username/password on resume. Remove check mark if it is present
for this setting.
