Download Everest

It will give you all the information you need.

I'm pretty sure you have an Intel i915G MB. It can use both DDR & DDR2, however, I strongly recommend you stay clear of DDR2 ... its latency is terrible @ 4.4.4.12 ... one reason AMD have no interest in it, for now.

Let us know what Everest says you MB is.

As I don't know the model number of my MB, I just checked my existing RAM to see what it is and it's:

PC3200, Non-ECC, 64/72-but, DDR400 SDRAM, 400MHz, CL3

Not sure how to check if my MB is ECC compatible, but I think I'll have to get in contact with the manufacturers for that info.
I wouldn't bother mate. Now Mucks has explained what ECC is (and cos I was too lazy to find out :D ) I really don't think it's worth paying the extra, particularly if it's slower.

I've never bought ECC RAM in my life, never had no probs.

Well, I don't think I have, but I do have a couple of expensive Corsair sticks here that may be ECC.

Just buy a pair of PC3200 512Mb stciks, Crucial; Corsair, Kingston will do.
