What ISP for XP64??

R

ribs55

I am currently using AOL. They are not compatable with winxp64. I want
to get rid of AOL anyway, so I figured as long as I am changing......
As long as I am here I would like to know if ZONE ALARM would work
also, And maybe an Anti-virus.
Thanks

You might get better help if you ask the folks on the 64bit newsgroup. Try:

AOL is much more than just an ISP. They also provide, and require that you
use, their special software (which is the main reason I would never consider
using AOL).

No normal ISP requires this, and can work with any software available. For
that reason, almost any ISP will work with XP64.

Moreover, what ISPs are available to me are not the same as what are
available to you. The list of ISPs differ depending on where you are
loctaed. Some are only in some countries, and some are only in some cities
or towns within those countries. And in many instances, the best choice may
be a relatively small local company.

To add to what Ken told you, any ISP that requires to you to install software to use their system
should be avoided.
It is that software that is the problem. That includes, MSN, AOL, PeoplePC, EarthLink, etc.
Go to your local yellow pages and look up Internet Service. You should need only a modem
connection, a connection user name and password and the server names for their mail service. All
of these setups can be done in Windows.

Any that don't require crapware to be installed on your system.
A good Internet Service Provider should provide JUST that - Internet
Service.
Not require you to install crap.

Thanks for the addition, with which I completely agree.

I don't know much about Earthlink, but I *thought* that although they might
supply software, it wasn't required to use their service. Please correct me
if I'm wrong.

Be advised that AOL is not really an ISP; rather, it's an on-line
content provider that insulates and isolates it's customers from the
real internet. To find a real Internet Service Provider, simply open
your local telephone book and look in the business section and/ot yellow
pages.
