What is Windows XP Gold ??

I'm trying to patch my copy of XP Pro, but several of the
links on the MS bulletins don't mention XP Pro or Home
editions, they only mention something called 'Windows XP
Gold'. What is this ? and can I use the link to download
the correct patch for my system ?

As a general rule, there are no differencies in patch application between
Home and Pro. A general "XP" patch will work in both Home and Pro versions.
However, take a look to the security bullettin that came with every patch to
be sure of this.

"Gold" means any XP version without Service Pack.

I would suggest you to use only windowsupdate to apply patches. In this way
you'll be sure that the RIGHT patches for your operating system will be
installed.

Gold is a term we use to describe the first release of a product. So, a
Windows XP Gold machine would be a machine installed with media bought
somewhere near release. Currently, most XP sold off the shelves is SP1
media, that would not be considered Gold.
