What is WIA ???

Just bought a new Lexmark X1150 All-in-one. Economical, but beautiful job.

Minor puzzlement: in Word 2000, the "Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera"
dialogue box where you select the device, it lists both "Lexmark 1100
series" and WIA-Lexmark 100 Series". Selecting either takes you to the same
Lexmark software utility.

What, then is the "WIA"? I assume it's a MS/Word thing, because the Lexmark
manual does not mention WIA.

Windows Image Acquisition.
Part of Windows OS. Uses it's own (usually less than full featured)
interface if you don't have manufacturer's specific interface for the
scanner, which in this case you do, so WIA will use it.
