I am new to using Windows Vista...and have apparently discovered a new
function..What exactly is Microsoft Communities?

The Microsoft Communities are discussion forums where you can ask a question
about a Microsoft product, and get free answer from other users.

The groups are arranged hierarchically. You asked in the public group that
details with Microsoft Access (the desktop database product in Office.)

For a list of the groups available and more information, see:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx

There are many more newsgroups in UseNet than just the Microsoft ones. Your
ISP probably has a newsgroup server, so you can add another newsgroup server
in Windows Mail under:
Tools | Accounts

You can also search back for past answers in various groups at:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en
