There is a feature in Windows that allows applications to use a programmatic
interface called 'IOfficeAntivirus' to scan a file before opening it.
For example, your email program may initiate a scan of files sent as
attachments before launching them, to try and ensure they are safe.
Antivirus (and antispyware) scanners can register to be called via this
interface - the DLL in question is used by Windows Defender to support this
mechanism.
The interface has been around for a while, and the name is a bit misleading
these days.
So then, Mike...can you tell me if, as is my case, I have Norton Antivirus
checking my email both incoming and outgoing...and everything is working in
that respect in just a peach fashion...
If I install Beta 2 Defender, will it's email antivirus service bump out my
Norton one? I would like to have the option to use the email virus scanner
of my choice.
Thanks, Mike! Though I would feel better if the word "should" in your
response was "will", but working as I do in the software world, I understand
the inherent difficulty of making such a word switch
