What is this internet connection?

When I go into network connections, I see a new one under the heading of LAN
or HIGH SPEED INTERNET called "1394 Net Adapter." When I double click on it
, It just shows that I have been connected at 400mbps and a timer runs. I
do not have to have any other of my usual internet connections open to have
this running. I can disable it, but I can't delete it. It doesn't appear
at this stage to be receiving or sending any packets, but this may be too
soon to confirm. Does anyone know what this is?

thanks, Ian

It is your firewire port which can also be used to network 2 computers
together. Many motherboards now have this built in. You used to need an
adapter card.

That "Net Adapter" is your network card for DSL, T-1, or high-speed connections. Disabling it simply means your off-line. You need this to be running to connect to Internet.

That's your Firewire port (which might have come on your mobo or your sound
card etc.)

Firewire is the trade name and IEEE 1394 is the standard number.

Think of it a bit like a USB 2.0 port but different and with some networking
capability.
