When I go into network connections, I see a new one under the heading of LAN
or HIGH SPEED INTERNET called "1394 Net Adapter." When I double click on it
, It just shows that I have been connected at 400mbps and a timer runs. I
do not have to have any other of my usual internet connections open to have
this running. I can disable it, but I can't delete it. It doesn't appear
at this stage to be receiving or sending any packets, but this may be too
soon to confirm. Does anyone know what this is?

thanks, Ian

You can do networking over USB or FireWire as well as over the standard topologies.

Just remove it.

You can "disable" it. Since you have a Firewire card, it seems to install a
"networking" connection, which will return after removal.
