What is the purpose of a particular Inbox column??

I recently added the 'Originator Delivery Requested' column to my Inbox. One
of the messages showed a check mark in the column.

This was a message I sent to someone and they replied back with their
comments. Thinking this column was used to indicate that the other person
replied to my message, I thought I would test this. I sent a message to
myself and then replied back. To my surprise, there was not a check mark in
the column mentioned above.

Can someone please tell me what this above column is used for??

It indicates whether the original sender of the message asked the recipient mail server to confirm that the message had been delivered to the recipient's mailbox.

It means that there was a Delivery Receipt requested;
When composing press Options...-> Request Delivery Receipt

If supported by the mailserver it will give you a notice when the message
has reached its destination.
