Usually it's supposed to be what you hope to achieve in the job you're
applying for, like "I want to become CEO before I'm 30 years old".
Personally, I think it's hooey. The person reading the resume is
probably more interested in how you're going to fit the company's
requirements than vice versa. Maybe it would fly in a rah-rah sales
environment, but an engineering manager will look at it as so much
window dressing. I guess you can tell which side of the tracks I come
from, eh? ;-)
I agree. Your objective is to get the job you're applying for, period. If
your objective is too high-flown, you run the risk of having the hiring
manager say, "Well, he won't be able to achieve this goal in the job I have
on offer, so he'll only be dissatisfied. I guess he's not the right man for
the job."
