I wanted to put a shortcut on my screen to launch the screensaver, but I
haven't been able to figure out the name of the "Launch Screensaver" program
in order to create the shortcut.
Does anyone know the filename/directory path for this file?
Thanks

Hi,

Create the shortcut using your favorite .scr file as the target. An .scr
file is a sort of executable, and they are usually found in the system32
directory.

Thanks for the hint, but it represents the solution to only a single case.
It would mean that if I decide I want to change my screensaver, I have to
create an entirely different shortcut for the next screensaver.

There must be a way to launch whatever screensaver has been selected through
the Display Properties menus. That would be a general solution to the
problem.

I am sure that some command file in Windows is invoked to launch the
screensaver.

That's what I am trying to find.

Hi Alan

I use a tiny freeware program called Wizmo for exactly this.

Wizmo (short for Windows Gizmo) is by Steve Gibson of grc.com and can
perform a lot of handy tasks, but I use it just to invoke the
screensaver from a shortcut on my Quick Launch bar.

Download from here: http://www.grc.com/default.htm

Add a shortcut to your desktop or Quick Launch bar, as preferred, and
set the Properties > Target box to read:
C:\Windows\wizmo.exe blank

Hope this helps.

Well, for anyone who cares -

I remembered that the Microsoft Office Taskbar has a shortcut button built
into it to activate the screensaver -

Checking "Properties" for the shortcut button reveals that a shortcut to:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

which invokes the screensaver program
