Hello Patrick,
The Checked Build is a set of files that include debugging information
to provide administrators with program functioning details.
The Checked Build files are not required for proper
operation of your computer and should not be installed in
addition to the Windows XP SP1a Web download or the
Windows XP SP1a stand-alone CD.

Patrick,

The checked build is for use with developers who need the additional symbols
embedded in the code to help them debug their applications.
Checked builds tend to be bigger and may also have performance hits.
If you have a regular retail or OEM (came with your PC) copy of Windows XP
you do not want to use the checked build. (it is for use only on the
checked build of the operating system)
