I don't understand re "cross on the cursor". My standard cursor is always a
cross.
If you mean that when you select a cell, it changes the selection to include
it, do you see EXT down in the status bar? If so, you are in Extend mode. You
got there by accidentally pressing F8. Press F8 again to return to normal.
