What is SUPPORT_388945a0? This entry is in security
settings\user rights assignment\"deny access to this
computer from the network." I used to be able to access
my workstation from a laptop, but now I can not. On the
workstation, I do not have rights (as Administrator) to
view my workgroup. Anyone know what is going on? I
suspect that I have been hacked, but I do not know how!
TIA gd.

That account installs as part of the OS and is normally
disallowed network access.

You may need to describe in more detail the types of
access that are now not working, the OS versions that
are involved, and the behavior and messages that you
encounter when the access is attempted.

When I click on "view workgroup computers" error message
populates: "workgroup is not accessible.you might not
have permission to use this network resource. contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. the list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available."

MS XP Pro v.2002 (no Service Packs installed.)

"workgroup is not accessible.you might not
have permission to use this network resource. contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. the list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available"

1. Disable any firewall (Software/hardware based)
2. Make sure all connections are OK, LED's lit on back of
NIC & on Switch ports.
3. Make sure you can ping each other, make sure both pcs
are on the same workgroup name
4. You may have the "Guest" account disabled
5. Check Local policy via start/run/"gpedit.msc" without
the quotes & browse to the following

Local Computer Policy/Computer Configuration/Security
settings/local policies/User Rights Assignment/ & check
the "Deny access to this computer from the network" & make
sure either guest or the account name is NOT in here &
make sure either the account name or guest group is in
the "access this computer from the network"
if it doesnt work for you...i've disabled the guest
account on mine & have set up identical accounts on all
pc's >> dont ask me why..that's just me... :)

hope it works..let me know otherwise..

Hi jerry,

One other thing you could try is heading over to
network connections & make sure the "network connection"
is not Disabled--- i accidentally did that once...reason
why i havnt included my email is cause of spamming, but
i'll write your one down...i'll still reply here
though..just for the benefit of all viewers...

best of luck johndoee.

jerry.
