what is single quotation mark left side of cell for

The single quote tells Excel that what follows is text. For example if you
enter: 123, that is the number 123 and will be right justified. If you
enter '123. That is text amd will be left justified. However, you can still
use the text '123 in computations.

The single apostrophe shows only in the formula bar not in the cell.

The single quote mark you see in the formula bar denotes the cell is formatted
as text.

The quote mark should not be showing up in the cell or when printing out.

If you have a quote mark showing in the cell, you have entered it by adding two
quote marks and you should two in the formula bar.
